I'm in Boston!

Time is flying by too quickly.  I actually have to start REAL WORK this coming Wednesday.  Eeek!

I'm excited because Tom and I got a new apartment!  Because medical school has stunted my life, this will be the first REAL APARTMENT I have ever lived in!

We're living in the Fenway, so if anyway comes to Boston for a Red Sox game, you can hang out with me too!  I'm only two blocks away!

YAAAAAY!  I'm an adult!  And, apparently, someone thinks I am qualified to be a REAL doctor.  I can prescribe drugs (within Massachusetts).  Aww yea!

Someone help me... I'm planning my wedding.

From now until I get married at a still to be decided date, this blog will be mostly filled with weddingness.  As a result, I give you a free leash to please unsubscribe from my Xanga until after this wedding planning is over and I hopefully become a normal person, if I ever was one in the first place.

For the past few weeks I have been painstakingly looking up sites for a wedding ceremony and reception in Southern California.  Now that I am here and have seen about 5 places, I am already ready to drive to Vegas and elope!  I cannot handle all the pressure!  I do NOT like making decisions without considering EVERY option, but since I only have a week in So Cal, I can't see EVERY wedding site.  Especially when the decisions involve tens of thousands of dollars.  I have been to the place where I *think* we might have our reception, but I am so scared to put down the deposit because that means

1) I am really getting married to Tom

2) We are really getting married at that locale and I cannot consider any other site.  Good thing I don't have as much hesitation about committing to Tom as I do about commiting to a site.  (Although I did for a moment when he started off a story today with, "So I was really drunk last night at my going-away party and they took me into a room where there were two Korean girls waiting for us...")

I have realized that my cheap Chinese self is coming out in full force now that I am talking thousands instead of tens or hundreds of dollars.  I cannot put down $2,000 for anything but that is what they want me to do!  I am freaking out internally.  I have never spent $2,000 at one time on anything except for my school fees.  I can't do it.  I am waiting for Tom to come to sign the papers so I don't have that responsibility on myself if something goes wrong and I have to throw that deposit out the door.

Actually, after writing this, I realize that if I finally pick a site, I can at least start planning all the other stuff that comes with a wedding, which means that I can finally move on.  This is a very good thing.

Also, does anyone know of ANY Catholic Churches in Irvine or nearby that can accomodate 100 people?

I'm back in the U.S.!

And now the "responsibility" and planning phase of my life begins as I begin my new life in Boston and try to plan a wedding from across the country.

So I need to buy a GPS for my car.  Anyone know anything about these things and which ones are good?  I need some recommendations or else I'm just going to end up buying whatever the salesman wants to sell me.  Help!

BALI!

So Tom and I just came back from an AWESOME vacation in Bali, Indonesia.  Indonesian people are seriously the NICEST people I have ever met.  And they all speak impeccable English, which helped a ton!

Anyways, here are some photos.  Sorry all I post is photos and no real content.  But a picture is worth a thousand words!

Here I am in Bali enjoying my first tropical drink of the week!

First night in Bali 006

We spent our first full day in Bali going diving in Padang Bai.  This island totally rocks.

Padang Bai 005

This is the little cleaner fish that kept following us as we were diving.  Here he is on my butt.  I think he thought we were big fish he could clean.  It was cute!

Padang Bai 080

We then went to Tulumben where we dived this awesome shipwreck and got certified to dive on our own, on Tom's birthday no less!  It was the best dive site I've ever been to.  We have so many photos, I maxed out the memory on my computer!

Nusa Lembongan Day 2 062

Happy Birthday Tom!  Here we are in Ubud, the center of "cultural tourism" in Bali.  It was my favorite city in Bali, but unfortunately it is not next to a beach.

Ubud Day 1 004

We hung out in the Monkey Forest, which was Tom's favorite, since he is a Monkey too.

Ubud Day 2 080

These guys come right up to you and grab the bananas out of your pocket if you are not careful!

Ubud Day 2 049

We also learned a bit about Indonesian cuisine in our cooking class.  This is the 30 second period during which I tried to grind down the spices.  Tom cooked most of the time =P

Ubud Day 3 011

Next we headed to Nusa Lembongan, this remote island off of Bali and a bumpy speedboat ride away!  Their main economy revolves around seaweed farming, as you can see this woman collecting seaweed at dusk.

Nusa Lembongan Day 1 008

The water is so clear, you can see the seaweed farms from above.

Nusa Lembongan Day 2 021

Although I complained most of the time we were there in our $10/night hotel room with no hot water and dirty sheets, I am glad Tom dragged my first world ass out there because we dived and saw fishes like this super giant Nemo!

Nusa Lembongan Day 2 045

After all the crazy trekking around Bali, we finally settled down in Nusa Dua, the resort area of Bali for some MUCH NEEDED R & R.

We had dinner at the Jimbaran seafood market, where you just pick your fish fresh and they grill it then and there with so many delicious side dishes.  And you eat it at a table right on the sandy beach.  It was amazing.  Unfortunately, Tom probably got his Bali belly (a.k.a. food poisoning) from here!

Nusa Lembongan Day 2 124

The next day we raced to see the sunset at Tanah Lot, a famous temple by the sea.  It reminded us a lot of California.  We miss those California beach sunsets.

Tanah Lot 053

Our last full day in Bali, Tom and I just hung out at the pool and the resort beach which was chock full of interesting sea creatures.

Here we are playing with our underwater camera.

Nusa Dua 049

I'm so glad we bought the waterproof case!

Nusa Dua 053

Look at the cool sea star we found!

Nusa Dua 036

Bali, you are wonderful!  A big goodbye hug to you!

Nusa Dua 023

We are now back in Seoul, where it seems to have warmed up since we were gone.  We are so thankful for clean, drinkable tap water and clean western toilets!  But we kind of miss all the stray animals and bugs we met along the way and all our underwater friends.  We had dinner in the craziness that is Myeongdong and realized that is too much for us too!  The first world is a jungle in it's own way.

Anyways, it looks like I'll be heading back to the U.S. this Monday or Tuesday since Tom is doing a crazy Asian tour of 4 major cities in 4 days next week.  It's back to reality.  Ugh!  Thank goodness for vacations.

I'm in Korea!  Land of Kimchi!

I'm having fun so far, even though it is cold, CoLd, COLD here and I have a nasty head cold/sinusitis.

My mom came with me to Korea for the first couple of days, but now she is safe at home in San Francisco.  I, on the other hand, am staying on so that I can go to Bali, Indonesia this Friday!

In preparation, Tom and I started part of our scuba lessons.  We're on our way to becoming certified divers!  Woohoo!  Is anyone else a PADI diver?  I need to find people to scuba with.

Scuba Lesson 025

Yes, that is me with my hair on end!

Scuba Love!

Scuba Lesson 018

I love this red bean fish bread.  I cannot eat enough, but I am trying to control myself so that I am not too obese for my Bali bikini.

Seoul 022

My mother and I went to the Korean Folk Village where they film all the dramas.  They put me in jail!

Korean Folk Village 018
Here I am at the DMZ (Demilitarization Zone), the "border" between North and South Korea.  Leave it to the Koreans to make "cute" versions of soldiers.

Demilitarization Zone 011

We also went to the palaces in Seoul, none of which I can remember the name of because they are all long and complicated names.  But this building was awesome because it was built in the middle of a pond!

Palaces 082

This creek in downtown Seoul also totally rocks and is so pretty at night!  I like the random penguin ice statues they had there that night.

Palaces 087

Tom and I then went to his hometown, Daegu!

My first response upon seeing the city, "This place looks like China."

For some reason, Daegu made us happy and want to dance.  Here we are in front of the waterfall Tom's dad designed when he was an architect in Korea.

DaeGu 028

We went to his old playground.  Some things never change.  Like crazy kids becoming BIG crazy adults.

DaeGu 133

We also paid respects to the ancestors.  Here we are on his family's mountain with his aunts and uncle where all of their ancestors are buried.  It was quite a hike!

DaeGu 107

Yay Korea!

Man, traveling totally rocks.  I wish I could do this 3 month-long vacation thing more often.  One problem I did not foresee-lack of money!  I am so used to having financial aid and always having something in the bank.  Thank goodness I've been with my mom who has happily encouraged and funded my shopping excursions.  And thank you to Tom, I swear I will pay you back when I get paid!
